Zahreen Ghaznavi
General Counsel for Media Companies with Experience in Non-Profit Sector and Public Education
About me
Zahreen Ghaznavi is the General Counsel at Newsweek. She previously worked as in-house legal counsel at TIME and Success Academy Charter Schools in NYC.
She began her legal career in the New York office of Kirkland and Ellis LLP, where she was a general commercial litigator. Prior to becoming a lawyer, Zahreen taught 5th grade on the southwest side of Chicago, where she's originally from, and worked for the U.S. Department of Education.
Zahreen earned her BA/MA in Political Science from Yale University and her J.D. from Columbia Law School. Outside of work, Zahreen serves on the board of directors of two non-profit organizations: Riverside Immigrant Services and Empowerment (RISE) and Bronx Charter School for the Arts.
She loves cooking and throwing parties. She's an avid reader (always has a book in hand) and is ready to have a conversation with you about whatever you are reading. She lives in Harlem with her wife, Shireen (together we are the "Reens"), and two dogs, Koa Bean Bryant and Amelia Furhart.
